Pipeline company criticized

By

A pipeline company that operates in Wisconsin continues to take criticism over a major oil spill in Michigan two years ago. The National Transportation Safety Board says the Enbridge Corporation was more like the Keystone Cops, the way the firm responded to a large leak of crude oil in 2010. Canada-based Enbridge has also had problems in Wisconsin, but now wants to increase the flow of heavier tar sands oil from Canada and North Dakota through a Wisconsin pipeline that leads to other states. Beth Wallace of the National Wildlife Federation says the blistering criticism of the Michigan spill should prompt the federal government to take a closer look at Enbridge’s Wisconsin project.

Enbridge says pumping more crude through Wisconsin would reduce the region’s reliance on Mideast oil. The company also says it’s taken steps to correct its response procedures, after the Michigan spill.
