Obama Touts Milwaukee’s Efforts To Get People On Health Exchange

Speaking in Milwaukee Thursday, President Barack Obama praised the city’s efforts to sign people up for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act.

Obama was visiting Milwaukee after the city won a competition to get new people on the so-called marketplace system to sign up for health coverage during the latest enrollment period. About 38,000 people did so, making for a total of nearly 90,000 local residents who have used the marketplace in the last year.

Obama said that’s enough to fill Lambeau Field in Green Bay and still have a tailgate party outside.

“And those tailgaters wouldn’t have to worry, because Obamacare covers indigestion from too many brats,” he joked.

The president criticized Gov. Scott Walker and Sen. Ron Johnson for opposing parts of his health care law. Johnson said earlier that day that the health care law has forced thousands of Wisconsin residents out of insurance they liked.
