Clinical professor of psychiatry at Georgetown Medical School. As a researcher at the National Institute of Mental Health, he was the first psychiatrist to describe and diagnose Seasonal Affective Disorder and pioneered the use of light therapy to treat it. His most recent book is “The Gift of Adversity: The Unexpected Benefits of Life’s Difficulties, Setbacks, and Imperfections.”
