Milwaukee is known as the “City of Festivals” and for good reason. With the city's lakefront as the backdrop, there is Summerfest and all of the ethnic festivals that follow, but that location isn't the only place to go to a good festival in the city or in state of Wisconsin.
While the summer is just beginning to wind down in Wisconsin, travel writer Garry Knowles said there's still plenty more to do, see and experience around the state. There is the Baylake Bank Tall Ship festival in Green Bay on Aug. 16- 18, along with the two Blue Berry Festivals in Iron River this weekend. There are other activities to look forward to as well such as, The Experimental Air Craft Association (EAA) fly in on Friday through Aug. 4.
Knowles said the EAA is a thrilling sight to behold.
“They bring in a lot of great war birds from World II and specialty aircraft. One man jets in on a jet pack, it’s just incredible," he said.
The second biggest event of the summer is the Wisconsin State Fair in West Allis, where visitors can get delectable cream puffs, corn on the cobb dipped in butter or even pet blue-ribbon animals.
Knowles said Wisconsinites should be proud of their state fair.
“In a review of state fairs around the country, it finished as one of the top three in the nation.”
The State Fair runs Aug. 1-11.
