Wisconsin families are coping as the recession grinds on. For those who have lost jobs in the last year, the disheartening news is that employment is often the last thing to pick up during a recovery. Wisconsin Public Radio begins a series of reports on unemployment today called "Long Road to Recovery." Patty Murray begins with a look at the numbers..

Segment 2: Job search on ice?

Segment 3: More people jobless for the long-term

Millions of unemployed Americans are not only out of work, but the average time without a job is 29 weeks. Because this so-called Great Recession has lasted more than two years, the number of people looking for work but not finding it for six months or longer is the highest since the Great Depression. Segment 4: In hurting job market, women fare better than men

Even before the recession, two paychecks were common for many Wisconsin families. Relatively low wages necessitated dual breadwinners. Now some families are living on one check; and in many cases, its the women's. Shamane Mills continues our series on "The Long Road to Recovery".

Segment 5: Unemployment rates high among minorities
1/29/10

Minority neighborhoods in Milwaukee appear to have the highest unemployment rates in Wisconsin. Estimates of the jobless figures on those streets range from about 20-percent to as much as 50-percent. Some people continue to look for work, and others are finding jobs....but worry about holding onto them. Chuck Quirmbach wraps up this week's look at "The Long Road to Recovery."

Segment 6: Unemployment prompts some to turn to further education

Wisconsin has lost more than 150,000 jobs since the recession began. Many of those jobs won't come back when the economy rebounds. The situation is prompting some of the recently laid-off to go back to school in order to retool their resumes and make them more appealing to future employers. Segment 9: Program allows people to work, generate good work history
