PSC VOTES DOWN WESTERN WISCONSIN WIND FARM WPR News - PSC Votes Down Western Wisconsin Wind Farm

The Public Service Commission has blocked a wind farm proposed for Western Wisconsin. Commissioners voted two to one today to deny a certificate for the Highland Wind Farm in Saint Croix County.

Madison attorney Peter McKeever represents a group of citizens that would have lived near as many as 44 wind turbines. McKeever says the PSC's rejection of the project doesn't mean the end of new wind farms in Wisconsin.

"I think it's quite the opposite. In order to make wind happen — I think all of us agree that's important — we have to get very skilled and very smart about where we place these, because farms and homes here are close together, relative to other states which have a lot of wide open spaces."

PSC commissioners say they need a better demonstration that noise from the wind turbines would not exceed state standards. The PSC says the Saint Croix County project can re-apply, if the application makes improvements to its sound modeling.
