Governor Scott Walker is again refusing to promise a veto of right-to-work legislation. That topic was one of several labor issues discussed at last night's gubernatorial recall debate in Milwaukee.
Democratic challenger Tom Barrett has been asking Republican Governor Walker to say whether Walker would veto legislation that would make Wisconsin a right-to-work state. Right-to-work laws make labor organizing more difficult.
Walker says he doesn't want a repeat of the labor protests that have affected Wisconsin over the last 18 months. Mayor Barrett says Walker won't promise a veto of right to work, because it would hurt Walker with conservatives.
Walker was also quizzed about the recently released video where Walker tells a wealthy Rock County donor that he's pursuing a divide-and-conquer strategy against organized labor.
Mayor Barrett says Walker was clear in the video that he wants to target more than many public sector unions.
But, Walker says he wanted to take on special interests that burden taxpayers. Barrett says the middle class isn't a special interest. The recall election is next Tuesday.
