FEINGOLD JOINS BARRETT IN DEMANDING JOHN DOE EMAILS WPR News - Feingold joins Barrett in demanding John Doe emails
Wednesday May 30, 2012 by Shamane Mills
A week before the recall election, former U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold joined candidate Tom Barrett in calling for the release of emails tied to a criminal John Doe investigation during the time Gov. Walker was Milwaukee County executive. Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett's first stop on a four-city tour Tuesday with Russ Feingold was a crowded coffee shop in Baraboo. Feingold tried to make the case that Gov. Walker should be recalled for what he described as a 'surprise attack' on voting rights and collective bargaining. Another reason he cited is the John Doe probe that has led to charges against three Walker aides from when Walker was Milwaukee County executive, "He (Walker) doesn't want to talk about it, but it's worse than that. He won't release the emails that the people of this state have a right to see before next Tuesday." Candidate Barrett says his opponent has been traveling across the U.S. for campaign dollars, leaving little time for public interactions with Wisconsin voters, "He's staying away from the public. He's obviously got very controlled events. And he's not answering anymore questions. To have a candidate for office that goes into shut down mode and is trying to keep public away tells you there's something wrong here." Walker, who made a campaign stop in Waukesha before going to Whitehall told reporters this about the John Doe probe: "I've pointed out repeatedly I have a high standard of integrity. I've always had a strict policy against using taxpayer resources for political purposes." Walker has repeatedly said he did nothing wrong; the recall election is June 5th.
