MARSHFIELD CLINIC TO OPEN DENTAL CENTER IN BLACK RIVER FALLS WPR News - Marshfield clinic to open dental center in Black River Falls
Tuesday May 08, 2012 by Steve Roisum
A northern Wisconsin medical group has plans to open a dental center in the western part of the state next summer. The center will help meet a huge demand for care among some groups. The Marshfield Clinic will be opening its ninth dental center in the state. The $4 million project in Black River Falls will have five dentists, five hygienists, along with 35 staff members. Marshfield Clinic spokesman Bob Mackie says about 5000 patients are expected to receive treatment. He says the dental center will accept almost anyone, but is mostly meant to help those who don't have access to dental care, "Which is really bad up in part of the state in rural areas, we have a lot of people who just can't get help anywhere else, a lot of people on Badgercare, different things like that. Who don't have the funds, things like that." Marshfield Clinic's Bob Mackie says there's a very strong need for affordable and accessible dental care in Wisconsin, "We could pretty much open one of these things anywhere and there would be a tremendous need. And that's evidenced by the fact that we get patients from every county in Wisconsin coming up to north and north central Wisconsin to our dental centers up here, we even get people from out of state." Mackie says Wisconsin is one of the worst states when it comes to the number of people who don't have access to dental care. He says that's in part due many areas of the state being rural.
