GROUPS CALL FOR STRONGER PIPELINE REGS IN WISCONSIN WPR News - Groups call for stronger pipeline regs in Wisconsin

(UNDATED) Environmental groups say Wisconsin and some other Midwest states are lagging in their regulation of underground pipelines. The Enbridge Corporation's massive oil spill from a Michigan pipeline in 2010 prompted a study of state and federal pipeline regulations. Study author Sara Gosman teaches at the University of Michigan law school and works for the National Wildlife Federation. Gosman says Wisconsin has several holes in its regulation structure. The Koch brothers who are helping finance efforts to keep Gov. Walker in office have pipelines and other operations in Wisconsin. It would seem unlikely for Walker and many in the Wisconsin legislature to take action that would make the Koch family unhappy. But environmental advocates say stronger pipeline regulations are an endorsement of clean water in Wisconsin and throughout the Great Lakes.
