MORE FALK-FOR GOVERNOR TV ADS AHEAD WPR News - More Falk-for governor TV ads ahead
Friday April 27, 2012 by Shawn Johnson
Unions say they will continue to campaign for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Kathleen Falk ahead of the May 8th Democratic primary. The union-funded group Wisconsin for Falk announced Thursday (4/26) that it would spend another $1 million on TV ads supporting Falk. The group said that brought its overall ad buy to $4 million. The announcement came on a day when Falk held a State Capitol news conference, surrounded by members of groups who've endorsed her including Arlyn Halvorson of AFSCME, "We have boots on the ground. People are talking. And you don't only talk to your members. You talk to your family members, you talk to the public." Falk secured most labor unions' early endorsements because of her pledge to veto any state budget that does not include collective bargaining rights. Several Democrats have suggested the move would hurt her and have called Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett more electable. But Falk said there had been naysayers throughout the recall process, "You know, every time they have said what couldn't happen, our movement has proven them wrong. And now they're saying a candidate can't win who's backed by labor. Well, working men and women in this state launched this movement but they have been joined by every single one of the values that we hold dear in this state. And that's why I know we will win in 40 days." Also running for governor among Democrats are Secretary of State Doug La Follette and state Sen. Kathleen Vinehout. The primary is May 8th.
