(STATEWIDE) Dozens of Earth Day events in Wisconsin beckoned people outdoors.
There were trash pick-ups in parks, along state trails, just about everywhere that governments need the public's help to clean things up for a few weeks or months. In the Metcalfe park neighborhood in Milwaukee, the safe and sound organization is coordinating a pick-up of litter related to alcohol and drugs. Organizer Claire Woodall says there are a lot of corner liquor stores in the low-income area that sell drug paraphernalia.
Woodall says all of the volunteers will be wearing gloves and have small metal pickers to collect the trash. She says after the trash collection, there will be a multicultural youth town hall discussion, to talk about what items were collected and plan a play about the dangers of underage drinking and drug use.
