WISCONSIN WOLF MEETINGS TODAY AND TOMORRROW WPR News - Wisconsin wolf meetings today and tomorrrow
Friday April 20, 2012 by Chuck Quirmbach
(WAUSAU) Over the next two days, we may get a better idea of how many gray wolves are in Wisconsin, and what key stakeholders think about a plan to kill more of the animals. The DNR is holding two meetings in Wausau. The DNR's Rebecca Schroeder Friday's (4/20) session is the annual gathering to compile a wolf population estimate. Schroeder says it may still take a couple weeks to nail down whether the population may top last year's estimate of at least 800 wolves. Saturday, (4/21) the DNR holds an annual meeting with a key group of organizations that have a stake in wolf management. Schroeder says they'll get a chance to sound off on the new wolf hunting and trapping law, beyond what they've already said via e-mail. Schroeder says work on administrative rules for the wolf harvest will go into high gear in the next few months.
