ARE WHEDA JOBS, WALKER JOBS? WPR News - Are WHEDA jobs, Walker jobs?
Thursday April 19, 2012 by Chuck Quirmbach
(OCONOMOWOC) Gov. Walker has announced this year's tax credits to fund affordable housing projects in Wisconsin. Though Walker claims the state is creating construction jobs, the credits come from the federal government. The Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority or WHEDA has announced almost $13 million in tax credits to help pay for 21 housing developments. Gov. Walker says about 1,800 construction-related jobs will be created. At the announcement ceremony in Oconomowoc, Walker was asked about the tax credits being a 25 year-old federal program, and whether the new jobs are really then a creation of the Obama Administration. Throughout his time in office, Gov. Walker has talked about his goal of creating 250,000 jobs in four years, but Democrats say Walker is well off pace to do so, and shouldn't try to take credit for the efforts of others.
