'FAKE DEMOCRATS' FILE PAPERS FOR RECALL ELECTIONS WPR News - 'Fake Democrats' file papers for recall elections
Wednesday April 11, 2012 by Shawn Johnson
(MADISON) Republicans running as fake Democrats in recall elections for governor, lieutenant governor and state Senate all filed nomination papers Tuesday. (4/10) The move will force primary elections in some races that otherwise had only one Democrat on the ballot. Some Democrats contend the fake Democrats are committing felony election fraud, a crime punishable by prison time. Reid Magney is a spokesman for the Government Accountability Board, which is reviewing the nominating papers. He says whether they're breaking the law is for someone else to decide, "While we have the power to do some investigating there, any kind of charging decision would have to be done by a district attorney." The state Republican Party says running "protest candidates" will make sure primaries and general elections all fall on the same date for every recall election. The State GOP ran fake Democrats in last summer's recall elections to give Republican Senators more time to campaign.
