Two new polls suggest U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan’s support in his congressional district is overwhelmingly strong even as his approval rating is low nationally.

The Janesville Republican has a 78 percent approval rating from GOP residents in Wisconsin’s 1st Congressional District, according to a poll released by Remington Research Group, a polling company that works for Republicans, on Thursday.

The survey also weighed Ryan’s popularity against Republican primary challenger Paul Nehlen. It showed Ryan leading 78 to 14 percent.

“I think it’s pretty much off the table, Congressman Ryan losing a primary election,” said Titus Bond, director of Remington Research Group. “It’s a probably one-in-a-million chance he’ll lose.”

The numbers come after Ryan’s support nationwide appears low. A survey by Public Policy Polling, which works for Democrats, showed only 40 percent of Republican voters approve of the job Ryan is doing as speaker of the House.
