Another court appeal is in the works in an effort to stop plans for a large scale dairy farm in central Wisconsin.

The Town of Saratoga in Wood County is making another effort to stop the proposed Golden Sands Dairy.

The Wysocki Family of Companies wants to put 5,300 animals on the proposed 7,000-acre CAFO, or concentrated animal feeding operation. It has already won circuit and appellate court cases allowing it to put buildings on the property.

Now, the Town of Saratoga is appealing a second circuit court ruling which gave the go-ahead for farming operations.

Bruce Dimick, a local homeowner and member of the group Protect Wood County, said he supports the town’s decision.

“The biggest issue is water,” Dimmick said. “The next issue is air pollution. And then, the more practical issue is that in areas surrounding a CAFO, property values plummet.”

Officials with the state Department of Natural Resources are still reviewing the project.

Officials with Golden Sands Dairy didn’t respond to an interview request in time for this story.
