Classical announcer Lori Skelton began working at Wisconsin Public Radio in 1993; since 1997, she has been the host of "Sunday Afternoon Live from the Chazen."
It was literally a wrong turn that gave Lori her life in radio. As a Beloit College undergrad, she covered various airshifts at the campus radio station, WBCR, but didn't expect to continue broadcasting once she graduated. In her first week of graduate school at UW-Milwaukee, she went looking for a professor's office, descended a flight of stairs she should have ascended, and walked into the studios of WUWM. Two years later, she was working at Milwaukee's commercial classical station, WFMR...she never did get her Master's in conducting.
Now, when not up to her ears in Bach and Bartok, she can be found singing in the Milwaukee Symphony Chorus, learning about prairie restoration, riding her bicycle, tending her garden, and extoling the virtues of wine.
