"The Kat Trio has a knack for combining a high level of classical musicianship with pure fun."
~Norman Gilliland, WPR Host and Producer
Wisconsin Public Radio is pleased to present the Ekaterinburg Classical Trio, a.k.a. the Kat Trio, as our Artists-in-Residence. The trio will serve as musical ambassadors for WPR and perform on broadcasts and at events around the state through September 2012.
The trio was founded in 1998 in Ekaterinburg, Russia. Their first American tour in the spring of 2000 was a major success. Currently based in Madison, WI, the trio continues to perform for appreciative audiences throughout the United States.
Today the group is comprised of violinist, Victoria Gorbich; clarinetist Vladislav Gorbich and pianist, Julie Page. Vikki and Vlad are doctoral graduates of Arizona State University. The newest member of the trio, Julie Page, is a doctoral candidate at the University of Wisconsin - Madison.
The Trio's concerts feature classical works, inspirational songs, and American pop standards, such as Scott Joplin's rags. They have released ten recordings.
WPR regularly collaborates with nonprofit and community groups to promote educational and cultural activities throughout Wisconsin. The Artists-in-Residence program is an offshoot of these on-going efforts.
