In addition to hosting Sunday Afternoon Classics on Wisconsin
Public Radio, Catherine Brand lends her personality to the Ideas Network on weekend mornings.
You may also recognize her voice on WPR underwriter announcements. During the week, she is
a part-time producer for Tom Clark and is thrilled to exploit her passion for reading on
Chapter A Day. She is currently pursuing a graduate degree in Voice at the University of
Wisconsin-Madison.
A student of Professor Ilona Kombrink, Catherine has performed
extensively with the University Opera, having most recently sung the title role in "The
Rape of Lucretia". Other memorable characters include "Ramiro" in "La Finta Giardiniera"
and "Satirino" in "La Calisto". In the fall of 2000, she appeared as "Teresa" in the world
premiere of David Bishop's labor opera, "Esperanza".
When not trouncing about the stage wearing furry legs or men's
clothing, Catherine enjoys playing ping-pong with her beloved felines, Murphy and Theo.
She is also a Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner and a lover of languages, world music,
and good food.
