Ilene Isenberg

WPR is sad to announce the passing of Ilene Isenberg on December 15th, 2011. She had been a valued member of our radio family since 2005, and will be missed by her coworkers and listeners alike.

Her family suggests that memorials may be made to Wisconsin Public Radio, the Wisconsin Master Gardener Program or Lawrence University.

Ilene Isenberg has been the Sunday host on Wisconsin Public Radio since 2005. Her first memories of WPR are hearing a Sousa march followed by Wisconsin weather while being urged off to elementary school in the morning, and avidly listening to Chapter A Day accompanied by grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup at lunchtime.

Radio from the other side of the microphone began when, as a music major at Lawrence University in Appleton, she had an afternoon free from classes and was convinced to host classical music programming on WLFM. After graduation, and some three decades working in commercial radio in the Fox Valley, a move to Madison made it possible to join WPR.

When not soothing your ears with Sweelinck and Smetana, she can be found planning and planting gardens, reading, or indulging in either red wine and chocolate truffles or Wisconsin cheese and bratwurst.
