Milwaukee Sikh Temple Mourns South Carolina Church Shooting

A temple that was the site of a mass shooting in Oak Creek hosted a vigil Sunday night for the nine people killed in a South Carolina church.

While a religious leader conducted prayers at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin nearly three years ago, a white gunman killed a half-dozen worshippers. Sunday night, the Sikhs and a multi-cultural coalition of religious leaders prayed for those shot to death in Charleston, South Carolina. Organizer Rahul Dubey said the Sikhs feel a kinship with survivors at Emanuel AME church.

“We are with you guys. (We’re) all one,” Dubey said. “Love humanity, embrace humanity. That’s my message.”

A 21 year-old white man who has expressed strong racist views is charged in last Wednesday’s killings. A vigil is scheduled at a local AME church Monday afternoon in Milwaukee.
