Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele criticized County Sheriff David Clarke today for joking that Abele should be tested for heroin use.
Clarke is a Republican appointee who currently runs for office as a Democrat, even though the Democratic Party doesn't want him. This week, when Abele proposed cutting the budget of the sheriff’s department, Clarke issued a press release that said, “Abele should be drug tested. He has to be on heroin to be hallucinating with that wild proposal.”
Abele told the media today that the sheriff should not be making light of heroin use.
“Heroin’s a very serious issue,” he says. “The impact is tragic, significant, and above all serious, and it deserves a very serious response.”
Clarke has been in a war of words with the Milwaukee County executive's office ever since former executive and fellow conservative Scott Walker left for Madison.
Abele says his proposed county budget helps the sheriff’s department in some ways.
