A county clerk in Wisconsin says he expects an influx of same-sex marriages as a result of Friday morning’s Supreme Court ruling.

That said, Milwaukee County Clerk Joseph Czarnezki doesn’t anticipate the same increase as last year when Wisconsin first lifted its ban on same-sex marriage.

“People know now that the Supreme Court has spoken that marriage equality is the law of the land in the United States. So I think they’ll take their time, plan their weddings with their family and friends, and apply for their marriage licenses and get married when they feel it’s best for them,” said Czarnezki.

Czarnezki said “a day doesn’t go by” without same-sex couples applying for marriage licenses in Milwaukee County. Hundreds of same-sex couples got married last year in Wisconsin after the state’s ban was thrown out.

Gov. Scott Walker holds an opposite view, calling Friday’s Supreme Court ruling a “grave mistake.”
