Medical College of Wisconsin Plans Pharmacy School

Milwaukee’s Medical College of Wisconsin has plans to open what would be the state’s third pharmacy school as early as the summer of 2017.

Dr. John Raymond, the college’s president and CEO, said the school will prepare the next generation of pharmacists for new demands on the profession.

“There is an increasing demand for pharmacists who can provide expanded service — high-end consultations as well as primary care in underserved settings,” Raymond said.

The proposed class size is 60 students. The state currently has two pharmacy schools, one at University of Wisconsin-Madison the other at Concordia University.

A Medical College of Wisconsin endowment will provide an initial $3 million for design and development. The total startup cost is estimated to be $30 million.
