Monday was the funeral of Freddie Gray, a 25-year old African-American man who died from a spinal injury after being in police custody. Riots followed in the afternoon. More than a dozen police officers were injured, and over two hundred people were arrested–the majority of those people were under the age of 30. A public radio reporter in Baltimore gives the latest on what’s happening in the city, and then a Baltimore native explains why he wasn’t surprised that violence erupted in Baltimore–and what needs to be done to fix the chronic problems there and in other major American cities.
