Wausau officials have still not released the identities of a city police officer and the slain suspect involved in a weekend shooting.
The shooting happened Saturday night after police were called to a domestic abuse complaint, determined there was cause for arrest, and then looked for a male suspect. Wausau Police Chief Jeff Hardel said that when the man was tracked down, he brandished a knife.
The suspect was shot and killed.

Hardel said the names of those involved won’t be released until the incident is reviewed by the Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation.
“The investigation is in the hands of DCI. They’re interviewing everyone, speaking with all of those that they need to speak with, taking all the measurements, pictures, etc. and at the proper time that will be released,” he said.
The officer has been placed on administrative leave.
