September 14th marked the deadline for the Mayor's Challenge, a contest sponsored by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's philanthropic foundation. Almost four hundred cities were expected to enter the competition. It grants an award of five million dollars to the application that most "demonstrates a novel and visionary approach to a challenge faced by cities." Four other cities will win awards of one million dollars each. This hour, Kathleen Dunn talks to two Wisconsin mayors about their applications for the Mayors Challenge, and what makes for effective urban policy.
