Hunger in the Coulee Region

Featured in this Show

  • Hunger in the Coulee Region Part 1

WAFER provided food to 1,700 families in the month of November. That’s 100 more families than the La Crosse food shelf was providing before federal food stamp benefits were reduced for millions of Americans November 1. The Channel One Regional Food Bank in Rochester, MN helped provide 9 million pounds of food to food shelves in 14 southeastern Minnesota counties and La Crosse County in 2012. In our first segment, learn more about the issue of food insecurity and who continues to struggle to pay for food as the economy continues to recover.

  • Hunger in the Coulee Region Part 2

We continue our discussion about hunger and the logistics of feeding people in our area. We feature a client of the Salvation Army’s food program, learn how area food drives impact food shelves, and find out what it’s like to live on less than $4 a day for food, something that is common for most food stamp recipients.
