Vaclav Havel: A Legacy

Václav Havel, who died on Sunday, will be remembered as a moral beacon in a sometimes rudderless world. Perhaps best known as the leader of the Velvet Revolution, Havel was also a dissident playwright and philosopher, a tireless human rights activist and a world leader. We will look at Václav Havel from all these perspectives as we try to shed light on his complex life.

  • David S. Danaher, Professor of Slavic Languages at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, teaches a monograph literature-in-translation course, "The Writings of Václav Havel: Critique of Modern Society", and is working on a book tentatively titled Reading Václav Havel.
