Ghazal Poetry

January 08, 2005 Saturday 2PM CT ( listen)
One of the most supple and moving poetic forms, the roots of ghazal (ga-ZAAL) poetry go back to Persia and Pakistan. But one brilliant poet, the late Agha Shahid Ali (AH-ga sha-HEED ah-LEE) wrote beautiful ghazals in English for Americans. After two, on "Here On Earth," Jean Feraca and her guests explore ghazal poetry in English.

Guest

  • David Caplan, Professor of English at Ohio Wesleyan University
  • Sara Suleri-Goodyear, Professor of English at Yale
