Former U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl and State Rep. LaTonya Johnson stumped for fellow Democrats in Milwaukee on Monday. The two urged people to vote for presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and U.S. Senate candidate Russ Feingold.

Kohl said the experience Clinton brings to the table makes her the best option for president.

“She’s a person who has spent all of her life working in public service and learning what it is all about,” Kohl said. “That is very complicated. It doesn’t come to somebody in a month or two. It’s a culmination of many years and in her case decades of work.”

Johnson, D-Milwaukee, said Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s divisive rhetoric makes him unfit for president.

“The fact of the matter is Donald Trump has said too many things and spread too much hate to effectively lead this country,” Johnson said.

Kohl said supporting Feingold over incumbent Ron Johnson in the heated Senate race is an easy choice after working with Feingold for 18 years.

“He has tried his best to keep the campaign at a high level,” Kohl said. “I think that’s the way to appeal. I know that’s the way to appeal to people in Wisconsin because I did that myself.”

The latest Marquette poll released earlier this month showed Feingold had a 2-point lead over Johnson.

Kohl said if Feingold continues to do the right things over the next eight days, he is confident Feingold will get elected.
