Heavy Rain Expected Across Wisconsin Thursday, With Flash Flooding Possible

NWS Expects Rain To End Friday Morning

Heavy rain is expected across Wisconsin Thursday afternoon and evening, with flash flooding possible in some areas.

Central and southwestern Wisconsin could see around 2 to 3 inches of rain, with about an inch or less falling in other parts of the state.

Sarah Marquardt, a National Weather Service meteorologist, said some areas could see more than the 2 to 3 inches, especially if they get hit by several heavy downpours. She said some of those downpours and thunderstorms “may produce a lot of ponding of water on roadways.”

“Pay attention to roadways if you’re traveling. Some underpasses … may fill up with water quickly, especially if there’s been thunderstorms or heavy downpours,” she said.

Marquardt also said rainfall may cause some rivers in central Wisconsin to get close to flood stage.

The rain will wind down Friday morning, but it won’t be gone for long: Marquardt said more rain is expected across Wisconsin on Sunday.
