Green Bay Schools Open Clinic for Employees

The Green Bay Area Public School District is opening a clinic where employees can go for non emergency healthcare.The clinic opened last week and officials say has already saved the district thousands of dollars.

Employees, their families, and retirees flocked to the new Quick Clinic opened by the district last week.An estimated 700 people came for flu shots.

Kathy Leidig is the District’s director of health services.

“That ended up saving us about thirty thousand dollars if those same vaccines were given in a doctor’s office.So it was a very very good experience for us with Prevea.”

Prevea is the provider hired to run the clinic, which is located in the district’s main office.It’s part of a larger movement toward workplace healthcare.Prevea runs 30 such on site clinics.

Leidig says anyone covered by the district health policy can come.A five dollar user fee will get a variety of diagnoses from sore throats to ringworm to wounds.

“Or if you go home and find our your children are sick you can bring your children back here if they’re covered.And maybe then you don’t have to call in the next day and you can work the next day.So it’s a little bit of an invisible benefit as well.”

District officials say the decision to open the clinic wasn’t a direct result of state budget cuts to public education, but that they’re looking at any potential savings.
