Farmers in northeastern Wisconsin can connect with wholesale buyers through a new online service.

The Northeast Wisconsin Food Hub is one of three programs geared toward getting producers connected with places like hospitals and schools that want to buy local food.

Ten farm groups met with 15 potential customers in Green Bay to kick off the web-based food hub.

Ashley Ponschok is helping set up the program with help from the Greater Green Bay Chamber of Commerce and Goodwill of North Central Wisconsin. She said the program keeps track of what farmers have to sell.

“You can update your profile page and your profile page has an inventory list, you can update your inventory list weekly and as soon as someone orders your inventory it disappears from your list,” she said.

Ponschok said the Green Bay area is an untapped local food source, and is overshadowed by Milwaukee and Madison.

“And there’s no reason we can’t do the same here in northeast Wisconsin,” said Ponschok.

Goodwill is also helping set up similar services in Appleton and Oshkosh.
