SUMMARY: Assist On-Air Fundraising Manager with planning and execution of membership drives. Manage fundraising thank-you gifts and on-air script writing. Assist fundraising staff with data entry and assist sponsorship sales team with copy editing and client research. Reports to Director of Membership & Corporate Support .
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support and participate in on-air fund drive planning and execution: (approx. 60%)
- Work closely with the On-Air Fundraising Manager to execute 3-4 on-air pledge drives annually; provide back-up to On-Air Fundraising Manager
- Create, update, edit and schedule on-air scripts for pledge drives
- Work to constantly integrate best practices and new initiatives
- Analyze historical data and use it to make strategic fundraising plans and decisions
- Supervise Pledge Central (answer member and call center questions, forward comments to studio, trouble-shoot any problems in overall operation of the pledge operation)
- Write and send pledge drive fundraising emails.
- Direct on-air talent in the studio
- Manage member thank-you gifts, including ordering, soliciting, inventory and mailing
- Effectively engage diverse perspectives and experiences in work product and in organizational interactions, including communication and decision-making.
- Assist Membership Staff (approx.10%)
- Help with data entry of donation information, using membership database (Allegiance)
- Proof direct mail copy
- Assist with shredding, filing, scanning of batches and files as needed
- Assist Underwriting Staff (approx. 25%)
- Serve as main reviewer for on-air copy; review underwriting copy for FCC guideline compliance, timing, and flow; work with on-staff attorney and management to resolve controversial copy; maintain copy guidelines, adding new examples as they arise.
- Maintain current media kit; responsible for updated hard copies and online copies/links at wpr.org; work with graphic designers, web staff and Director of Membership & Corporate Support to compile and distribute accurate materials
- Assist sales staff with proposals or research by request
- Other duties as apparent or assigned, including, but not limited to: (approx. 5%)
- Fill in at front desk.
- Help Director of Membership & Corporate Support with various tasks related to Underwriting, Pledge, Direct Mail, Membership or Audience Services

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Write and proof copy for membership drives, emails and underwriting
- Establish and meet realistic deadlines
- Collaborate productively and professionally with staff, volunteers, donors and the public
- Respond to member/donor questions and calls with the highest quality customer service.
- Work non-standard schedule during and immediately before and after pledge drives.
- Lift/carry/sort material weighing 10 pounds routinely and up to 25 pounds occasionally.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree
- Two years relevant experience
- Superior oral and written communication skills
- Excellent proofreading, grammar skills
- Experience managing projects with multiple moving parts
- Highly developed collaboration skills
- Demonstrated ability to write creative, engaging scripts and copy
- Ability to remain calm and productive when unanticipated problems arise
- Ability to convey energy and excitement about pledge goals
- Attention to detail/accuracy
- Ability to provide actionable feedback to colleagues
- Demonstrated ability to effectively engage diverse perspectives and experiences in work product and in organizational interactions.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with copy editing or broadcast writing
- Experience in public broadcasting, media or communications
- Experience with relational databases
