Milwaukee County buses will keep running, but there’s no new contract yet for hundreds of drivers and mechanics.

After a mediation session Thursday, federal mediator Jeff Middleton walked out to the news media and showed a joint statement from the Milwaukee County Transit System and the Amalgamated Transit Union. The statement said at contract negotiations, the two sides made progress toward a four-year agreement, with the transit system presenting a comprehensive proposal that the union will review.

The parties and the mediator will resume negotiations on Aug. 10. The union and transit officials said they’ve agreed not to publicly discuss the matter until after that next meeting.
