Duffy Urges Arms Shipments To Ukraine

Congressman Says Doing Nothing Isn't An Option

By

U.S. Rep. Sean Duffy, R-Wis., is calling on President Barack Obama to send arms to Ukraine, arguing that the U.S. isn’t doing enough to help the fight against pro-Russian separatists.

Joining a growing number of congressional Republicans and a handful of Democrats, Duffy said he believes the U.S. needs to step up support to help Ukraine push back rebel fighters loyal to Moscow.

“I think the president should send arms to the Ukraine. I think it’s important that we arm them to push back against the Russian rebels,” he said.

Duffy said doing nothing is no longer an option and he doesn’t think arming Ukraine would lead to a second Cold War.

“If we’re not going to step up and help Ukraine push back against the Russians, what’s to tell the Russians they can’t go back and take back the territory they had when it was the Soviet Union?” he said.

Obama hasn’t ruled out sending weapons to Ukraine though some European leaders, like Germany’s Angela Merkel, are against the idea.
