DOT Officials Unhappy With Mysterious Appearance Of US Flag On Green Bay Bridge

DOT Says Hanging The Flag Was 'Dangerous On So Many Levels'

By

An American flag mysteriously appeared overnight on one of Green Bay’s most heavily traveled bridges, in what the state Department of Transportation says was a “foolish act.”

At 6 a.m. on Friday, reports came in of a large American flag attached to the girders of the Leo Frigo bridge, which crosses the Fox River where it meets Green Bay. The flag was hanging several stories above the freeway.

DOT spokesman Kim Rudat said one can “appreciate the sentiment” of hanging a 30-foot flag in a prominent spot on Memorial Day weekend, but also said that it was “dangerous on so many levels.”

“This person was no hero,” said Rudat. “There was nothing patriotic about this. I mean, in order to remove the flag we had to put people in jeopardy, put a crew out, put police out there to control traffic.”

Rudat said the flag could have blown down and caused an accident.

It was taken down before 8 a.m. Here’s a photo of the bridge tweeted out by Pauleen Le, a reporter with FOX’s Green Bay affiliate:
