Disagreement Brews Over Milwaukee County Board Funding

There’s more criticism of a bill in Madison that would make deep cuts in funding for the Milwaukee County Board and allow county voters to decide this spring whether to make the board part-time. Reverend Willie Brisco of Milwaukee Inner City Congregations Allied for Hope is blasting Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig for agreeing to host a fundraiser this month, aimed at supporting the bill.

Brisco says the legislation would not help create jobs or end youth violence in Milwaukee. State Senate Republican Leader Scott Fitzgerald said this week that the county board legislation isn’t likely to be passed in time to get a referendum on the April ballot. But Mike Wilder of the group Citizen Action says opponents of the measure will monitor it closely.
