One of the advisory questions from the Conservation Congress part of conservation hearings scheduled across Wisconsin Monday night asks whether there should be a sandhill crane hunting season in the state.

Dane County delegate Melissa Smith hopes the question loses.

“(I can’t) find any real science-backed literature or anything saying that a sandhill crane hunt would actually help farmers,” said Smith.

Smith said that if most of those who attend the Dane County meeting vote for sandhill crane hunt, she will then support it, assuming she’s re-elected as a delegate.

The hearings may also see new Conservation Congress delegates chosen, as well as votes on a study of frac sand mining and whether to remove restrictions on hours for trapping.
