These five young musicians bursting with spontaneous energy are touring the world, bringing their sultry twin vocals and rollicking roots to an ever-widening fan base. On top of their natural talent and respect for repertoire, they have beautifully arranged original and traditional tunes, singing in French and English. Their second album Ste-Waves was nominated for a Felix; their third is out this autumn. They’ve played festivals in North America, Europe, Australia and soon Africa”. This will be their second visit to Scotland after Celtic Connections 2015. Salut les amis! – Festival Fringe

I learned shortly before the concert that this group had appeared in Madison, Wisconsin in the U.S. not so long ago with an enthusiastic following After a few measures of their opening song, I fully understood why their popularity. Les Poules A Colin is an exceptional collective of players in a band that from start to finish demonstrated their love for the music of their homeland, Quebec.

The musicians enjoy performing together with tunes that were infectiously moving, energetic and completely entertaining. One of their strengths is a thorough comprehension of the power of dynamics and how to employ them effectively to create tension, mood and excitement. For those in the audience it was beneficial to have the narrative of the songs explained both historically and contextually as most pieces were rendered in French.

This band knows how to give their music ‘flavor’ through songs that found a enthused and receptive packed house crammed in to an excessively close space making it uncomfortable for musicians and audience members. They could easily have filled a hall four times the size. It was welcome to witness accomplished musicians that don’t take themselves too seriously, with a rhythm section that can play ‘in the pocket’, and vocals that are beautiful, warm and tender. The band can definitely ‘groove’ for any dance floor crowd. Get ready world, this group is already really, really good and on its way to greatness.
