Cold Snap Hits Wisconsin, Courtesy Of Arctic Air Mass

The coldest weather of the season has arrived, with temperatures possibly dipping to minus 22 in some spots in northern Wisconsin on Friday morning.

Linda Engebretson, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Duluth, blames an arctic air mass for the cold temperatures Wisconsin has seen for a few weeks.

“It’s been another pattern with a lot of air coming from the Northwest Territories, or that general area. It’s causing the far east to get a lot of snowstorms, and we’re getting a lot of cold air,” she said.

Engebretson said temperatures should stay below freezing through early next week. Temperatures may not return to normal until March.
