GENDER BENDER
Men are not really from Mars and
women are not really from Venus. But there are definite differences between
the two genders. Norah Vincent was curious about what a man's life was
like. So she spent eighteen months undercover...as a man. In this hour
of To the Best of Our Knowledge, Norah Vincent tells us about her
journey into manhood.
SEGMENT 1:
Norah Vincent spent eighteen
months disguised as a man. She describes the experience in a book called
"Self-Made Man: One Woman's Journey into Manhood and Back Again."
Vincent tells Anne Strainchamps what it was like to hang out with the
guys as one of them, and what happened when they found out who she really
is. Also, James Finney Boylan had gender re-assignment surgery in his
40s and is now Jennifer Finney Boylan and the author of "She's
Not There: A Life in Two Genders." Boylan tells Jim Fleming that
her life is not about the surgery and that she couldn't have made this
journey without her supportive family.
SEGMENT 2:
Mike Greenberg is co-host
of ESPN Radio's "Mike & Mike in the Morning" and author
of "Why My Wife Thinks I'm An Idiot: The Life and Times of a Sportscaster
Dad." And he's a self-described metrosexual who cares a lot about
his appearance and lifestyle. TTBOOK producer Doug Gordon, who's
neither a sportscaster nor a metrosexual, but is Canadian, prepared
this report.
SEGMENT 3:
Journalist Neil Strauss tells
Steve Paulson about the two years he spent with a group of pick up artists
- men who share techniques about how to charm women. His book is "The
Game: Penetrating the Secret Society of Pickup Artists."
