VALENTINE'S DAY
To The Best of Our Knowledge
from Wisconsin Public Radio
It's Love At First
Sight
Sinatra swings it, Miles Davis jazzes
it up, and Billy Holiday croons it from the heart. Next time
on To the Best of Our Knowledge, the biography of a great
American love song. In our second annual Valentine's Day Show
the Rogers and Hart hit "My Funny Valentine." And
our listeners share true stories of love at first sight.
SEGMENT 1:
British journalist Tim Richardson is the
author of "Sweets: A History of Candy." He tells Anne
Strainchamps that different cultures have different tastes in
sweets and that we should all eat more candy. He says research
does not support the belief that sugar leads to obesity and heart
disease. Also, Doyle Redland brings us a bit from the Onion
Radio News. And, cookbook author Dorie Greenspan tells
Jim Fleming about the fabulous desserts she finds in Paris. Greenspan's
latest book is "Paris Sweets - Great Desserts from the City's
Best Pastry Shops." (To see her cookie recipe, click

making a candy called Divinity.
SEGMENT 2:
Music historian Will Friedwald is the author
of "Stardust Melodies." He talks with Steve Paulson
about the history of the song "My Funny Valentine" and
we hear lots of different interpretations.
SEGMENT 3:
Once again, we present your
stories of love at first sight.
