of the 20th century. And we hear clips from the film version of
"The Big Sleep." Also, historian Michael Kammen
tells Anne Strainchamps that the social distinctions between high-brow
and low-brow culture are not as important as they once were. Kammen's
book is "American Culture, American Tastes: Social Change
and the 20th Century."
SEGMENT 3:
Anthony Lane is the film critic for The New
Yorker magazine. He tells Steve Paulson he loves both classics
