Wisconsin Public Radio Features Tent Show Radio Special
The original musical "Abraham Lincoln's Living Legacy: The Full Measure for the People" will make its radio debut on WPR's Tent Show Radio as part of President's Day weekend on Saturday, February 13th at 7pm on the Ideas Network stations and streams. As we celebrated Abraham Lincoln's 200th birthday in 2009 and approach the sesquicentennial commemoration of our nation's Civil War in 2011, this is a time when the lessons of our past can provide great insight into the environment of struggle all nations sense in the world today. The show was created by long-time Big Top Chautauqua band member Bruce Burnside and debuted at Big Top Chautauqua in Bayfield last summer. Bruce Burnside holds degrees in History and English. He studies the evolution and playing techniques of fretted instruments and is the artistic director of Forgotten Wisdom, which specializes in school residencies using music to teach history and organizational skills. The common thread of familiar human behavior between then and now has been captured by Burnside in this educational and entertaining musical show for all ages. Original songs, narrations and melodies are performed with Big Top Chautauqua's Blue Canvas Orchestra & Singers. Lake Superior Big Top Chautauqua is a year-round nonprofit performing arts organization enhancing cultural opportunities and strengthening connections to the history of the Chequamegon Bay area, state of Wisconsin, and the Upper Midwest through the uniquely American tradition of tent shows. Big Top Chautauqua's summer season begins mid-June and runs through early September.
