Working Title: Radio Production Assistant - LTE
Unit: Wisconsin Public Radio (WPR),
University of Wisconsin-Extension
Appointment: Limited Term Employee- 2 vacancies
Location: Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Availability: Immediate/ Open until filled

POSITION SUMMARY
We are looking for two individuals to work in our downtown Milwaukee bureau, assisting in the production of our live talk programs with hosts Kathleen Dunn and Ben Merens. As a production assistant you would work with the program host and a lead producer to locate and schedule guests, gather background material, and record audio for use during the program. You would also be responsible for screening calls and fact-checking during the live broadcast.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

On-Air Production/Call Screening

  • Set up the guest for each hour by phone, ISDN line or in studio.
  • Screen calls during live broadcast.
  • Suggest appropriate questions and comments for host to use during program.
  • Screen and communicate appropriate e-mails to host.
  • Check statements made on air that need clarification (such as event details, phone numbers, news stories, etc…).
  • Record additional information given out during show (websites, book titles, etc…) and route to Audience Services immediately after the program.

Program Production

  • Assist in locating, pre-interviewing and scheduling guests.
  • Assist in compiling background material for show preparation.
  • Assist in gathering and recording audio for use during program or promotional spot.

QUALIFICATIONS

A successful candidate must be detail-oriented and highly organized. Outstanding communication skills, spoken and written, are essential. Keeping current with state, national, and international news is required. A background in customer service and/or research is helpful.

Approximate Weekday Hours:
The Kathleen Dunn Show – 8:00 until noon daily, Fridays flexible
At Issue with Ben Merens – 2:00 until 6:00 daily

COMPENSATION: $10 per hour
