Working Title: New Media Content Director

POSITION SUMMARY
The New Media Content Director manages the content of Wisconsin Public Radio’s Internet/New Media projects and programs. This position plans, creates, coordinates, gathers, organizes, and publishes content for all WPR internet efforts. Working in partnership with the Director of Technology and New Media, the Content Director implements management directives on-line using all forms of internet technology: web, email, database, and social media tools like Public Action, Facebook, and Twitter. The Content Director serves as the primary champion for internet work, acting as an important liaison with other departments to support and enhance their web presence. The position requires substantial skill at cooperation and coordination with those working on the technical and other aspects of WPR’s Internet and other new media efforts. The new media content director reports to the Chief Operating Officer/Program Director.

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Manages and/or facilitates management of the content of Internet/New Media projects and programs, including planning, organizing, copy, layout, design and publishing.
  2. Works with the Director of Technology and New Media to implement management directives online, using web, e-mail, database and social media tools.
  3. Cross-trains with the Director of Technology and New Media in order to supplement their work and to provide vacation/illness backup.
  4. Acts as champion/liaison to other departments to support and enhance web and new media efforts.
  5. Chairs or co-chairs the Integrated Media Team (a cross-functional group of professionals from WPR, WPT, ECB, Extension, etc.)
  6. Serves on WPR Program Planning Team.
  7. Work as directed with web leaders at Wisconsin Public Television and the ECB to implement common content platforms and shared content which advance the service goals of the partner organizations.
  8. Participates in on-air fund raising and other special promotional events as assigned.
  9. Responds to listener/user queries and comments related to new media content.
  10. Recognizes multiculturalism and diversity as organizational assets.
  11. Respect for others in all workplace relationships and interactions.
  12. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Aesthetic sensibility that leads to attractive, easy-to-use Web sites and related features.
  • Ability to effectively use and/or direct the use of a variety of Web and other software, including Content Management Systems, programs such as Dreamweaver, Graphic, Audio and Video editing software, languages such as HTML and more.
  • Skill, comfort and demeanor to effectively and productively lead diverse staff across departmental lines
  • Ability to work non-standard hours during events, pledge drives and so forth
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Bachelor's degree required.
  2. Demonstrated experience in web initiatives and new media efforts.
  3. Superior oral and written communication skills
  4. Ability to work productively and successfully with diverse, multicultural people and groups.
  5. Experience with HTML and Web Content Management Systems.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience leading content personnel in developing Web and/or new media efforts.
  • Three to five years content management experience
  • A strategic, broad-based and imaginative approach to integrating Internet and new media efforts into a broader enterprise.
  • Experience with Search Engine Optimization practices.
SALARY: The range for this position is mid-$50K to upper-$60K with actual pay dependent upon skills and experience. UW-Extension offers a comprehensive benefits package.
