Scott wants to know how to help out the bursitis on his heel. Z recommends 1. To stop walking barefoot around the house (wear crocs, Tiva sandals, or athletic shoes), 2. To take 2 Aleve twice a day (440mg) for 2-4 wks & 3. To do stretching exercises that we’ll show on our website.]

Topic                          Popularity and Success

#5 Pocatello, ID           Should I Get Shingles Vaccine?
The caller had his spleen removed as a child, and now he wants to know whether or not this means a shingles vaccine will put him at risk. Z says he needs to check with his doc, to check in the medical pamphlet or to check with a pharmacist. T asks Z what the general guidelines for shingles are and Z says the age is about 60 now.

E-mail                            Rapid Fire
Garland Garland in Wakefield, Michigan wants to know if canned beans are nutritionally different than dried? Not really.

Everette in Hilliard, FL wants to know: Do MRI’s have the same radiation risks as X-rays? No.
Rebecca from Livingston, MT wants to know Z’s take on Genetically Modified Organisms? Z says they’re not “frankenfoods”, and that he kind of likes them.

SEGMENT #3

TOPIC:                          Poisoned Pork
Z and T discuss the latest Consumer Reports findings that 69% of the pork products tested contained Yersinia enterocolitica (fever, cramps, bloody diarrhea). Ground pork was more contaminated than pork chops. Z says that you should cook your pork to 145-160 degrees.]

Mythbuster:                   Eleven O-Clock Execution?
T asks Z if it’s really true that people are more likely to die at 11AM than any other time. Z says you’re more likely to die in the morning, but he doesn’t believe that this necessarily means 11AM.

#7 Stephenville, TX       Wrinkly Hands
Kimberly wants to know why her hands wrinkle up so easily and actually become painful? Z says it probably has to do with a genetic abnormality relating to the tensile strength of her karatin. He says she can try anti-inflammation drugs like Kenalog. He also recommends putting salt in her bathwater, because she mentions that it happens less in the ocean.

E-mail                             Allspice Advice
T reads an e-mail from Bruce in Boulder Junction, WI that corrects Z on his statement that allspice is “just a mixture of spices”. Allspice is a single plant called the Pimenta dioica. It’s native to the Caribbean, but it is grown in many tropical areas.
